What is your monthly budget? How much does it cost to live on your own? And for those who are very thrifty/ frugal, what financial tips do you have?

Basically, is it possible to live on $12,000 or less per year ($1,000 per month or less)?

My parents never really taught me much about money/finances. They said it would be hard for an individual to live on $40,000 per year but they are extremely wasteful.
