A lot of people approach simplicity as a question of what to get rid of, or stop doing. That's fine, and it's just as possible to come at it from the other direction:

I don't even remember where I first heard this idea, but imagine your life, or your time each day/week/year, as a container (for me it's a humongous mason jar). You can only fit so much in, so you want to start with the biggest, most important things - what do you absolutely want in your life? Given some time to reflect many of us name things that we may take for granted in the rush of life or assume we'll get to 'later' - friends/family, saving money for a specific goal, quiet time or time among nature, or that big life purpose thing that you think you're not ready to move toward.

Whatever your rocks are, put those in the jar first - there's probably only room for a few. Prioritize those things every day. There's still room in the jar for some stones (responsibilities you accept but may not love, such as a job just for $ for many people), and after those you can still fit in some pebbles and sand, and even after that that there's room for water - life is full! But pick the rocks first. To the degree you choose and prioritize well you will find that you simply don't have time/space for a lot of the other stuff, it fades away pretty naturally.
