I live in NC and we recently had 2 hurricanes come through which obviously produced a lot of rain. I try to keep an eye on my crawlspace and have noticed water getting into it, only after we get heavy, heavy rain, like after these 2 hurricanes. I end up having to suck the water out with a wetvac and then put an industrial type of drying fan down there to dry it out. I want to eliminate having to do this. It's hard to be sure but I think the water is coming in through parts of the brick foundation where the HVAC enters the crawlspace. I should have noticed this a while ago but the mortar in these areas between the bricks has broken down and appears to be damp. I think the water is seeping through the bricks and these broken down mortar spots and then enters the crawlspace. My idiot self sprayed some foam gap sealer around the HVAC because I thought the water was entering this way.My thought process at this point is get rid of the foam and to put new mortar in all of these gaps between the bricks where it has decomposed. Wait for the mortar to completely set, then put a brick water sealant on the interior and exterior of this brick area of the crawlspace. If anyone has a suggestion on a better brick water sealant, I'm all ears. This will hopefully repeal the water from entering the bricks and the new mortar should help as well. The rest of the crawlspace is completely dry and this is really the only way water can be entering in. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciate. I included a couple pics of the bricks.https://ift.tt/2CcGOtv via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2ISUpb0
