I'm a bit of an extreme frugalist. Here are a few tips I use to get the most out of everything I buy.
-
Bone-in meat; I stretch meat by putting it into a stew or soup instead of just eating it in pieces. I boil the leftover bones to make bone broth. I then crush the bones (now very clean) and use them for calcium in my garden.

I refuse to use rough toilet paper, so I buy the best I can at the best price, and count sheets when I use it. I also use it as Kleenex when at home, because it is so much cheaper. I use the toilet paper rolls to make "peat pots" to start my vegetables and other plants grow from seed.

I have a 7-gallon container for water I catch when I'm waiting for it to warm up. I use it for hand-washing delicates, watering plants, and cooking. I can't do this in my apartment, but I used to catch grey water from my sinks and use it to flush the toilet.

You don't have to use a whole toothbrush full of toothpaste to clean your teeth. The brush is actually what does most of the cleaning, so only put a dab of toothpaste on your brush to make it last twice as long. I also cut open my toothpaste tube and get about 2 more uses out of it.

I cut up or zest lemon and orange peels & freeze them in ice cube trays (a bit of water added of course). Put a cube in a glass of plain tap water for a nice, flavored water. You can also make candied citrus peels with grapefruit and orange peels. Recipes can be found online.

I have a plastic travel soap-holder that I put all my leftover bits of soap in. When it's almost full, I fill it with warm water and let the soap melt, stir it up well and let it dry. Add couple drops of essential oil, and VOILA! A free bar of soap. You can also use any kind of mold for this. I've used mini cupcake tins and plastic containers as well.
