Tips I've found when booking train tickets. Get an app or possibly use a website (I use an app on my phone). First if your journey has a changeover, look to see if buying two separate tickets are cheaper than buying one ticket. Second, if you can be open about the travel time then wait to buy the ticket until it's nearer a departure time than say the day before. By doing both those things I've gotten tickets normally priced at £20 for as little as £5, I think it's when long haul trains don't fill up.
