Hi everyone, I need help choosing a peacoat. So I've basically narrowed it down to the schott 740 or the authentic sterlingwear. Vintage would be my last choice.

I would still entertain the vintage option but I would much prefer to buy a new coat that I can return if the fit isn't what I want and that I don't have to hunt for. If the holy grail vintage coat was in front of me I would buy it but I don't want to research all the details to make sure I'm getting an authentic coat. I have also read that current navy coats aren't the same quality as vintage models. Not sure if this is true but if so mil surplus store coats would be taken off the list.

That being said, I'm not opposed to paying a little more than a vintage coat for something new. Does anyone have an opinion as what company makes a higher quality coat? My main concerns are durability, quality and warmth. I don't mind paying a little more for new if they are comparable quality to a vintage.

So is it really worth it to go on a hunt, that I wouldn't enjoy, to get a vintage peacoat? Or are the modern schott and sterlingwear peacoats as good in terms of quality? If so shott or sterling?

Thanks!!
