I'm having trouble deciding whether to get a pitcher and/or growler. No budget, I'm willing to spend more for a BIFL. I was initially looking for a pitcher and surprisingly it's been difficult to find a good one:
- No plastic that comes in contact with liquid
- Fully sealed for freshness
- Easy-to-clean
- To lesser extents: space-efficient, can withstand wide range of temperatures (I've read lots of experiences with shattering--I guess borosilicate glass is the solution)
I've searched throughout Amazon for those with at least 4.5 reviews and haven't yet found one that satisfies thes these three requirements. Those glass milk bottles seem good, but I don't like the snap-on caps (which tend to not last, as evident by the fact that sellers tend to provide extra caps). Mason jars seem unwieldy (difficult to grasp?).
As a result, I'm also looking at growlers and wonder if they are appropriate substitutes. Not only can they handle wide range of temp, they can also keep the liquid at that temp for a long time. My gripes with it is that it's not transparent and the opening is more narrow while the body is more wide so it might be more difficult to clean well. It also seems unwieldy as it tends to be heavier and lacks a proper handle that most pitchers have. Lastly, it's not aesthetically pleasing to have a tank of growler on the dining room table, but this is certainly not essential.
I do like that growlers are way more versatile--I can carry it anywhere and they are less prone to a disaster.
What do you guys think? Can a growler substitute a pitcher? Any particular recommendations? Since I haven't found a good pitcher yet, I've been eyeing on a Hydroflask 64 oz growler. I'm also open to those jugs with a faucet/valve, but that part seems difficult to clean well and I don't like that there's a small pool of liquid at the bottom where it is below the valve where it can't be dispensed.
Much appreciated.
