Hey folks, I just wanted to share the outstanding experience I had purchasing my first pair of Danners this weekend. I’ll preface the experience by saying that I’ve owned Doc Martens, Red Wing, and Timberlands and while I don’t do heavy construction, I do work on concrete in an industrial setting 40+ hrs a week, and 2 of the brands I mentioned have failed me in some way. Red Wings were great but had a very long break in period. My Timberlands were the most recent pair, and were too narrow for my feet (I have a bunion on my left foot) and have left me in pain at the end of most shifts, though I loved the look of them.

So, after a ton of research I decided I wanted a pair of US made Danners. I live in the Seattle area, and do quite a bit of hiking, and work in a warehouse/industrial setting. I’m on concrete 40+hrs/week and during spring-fall seasons...I probably hike around 10 miles/month. I wanted a boot that would work for many different applications, and last me longer than 6-12 months.

This weekend my fiancé and I took a drive down to Portland to the Danner factory store because I heard they had factory seconds at a discounted price. HOLY HELL! If you live close and are in the market for a new boot, drop what you’re doing and go now. First, the majority of the boots were marked down anywhere from $50-$150 from their normal retail price. Second, the amount of options they had was overwhelming. I expected for there to be SOME factory seconds but not wall-to-wall discounted boots. I think I tried on 5 different styles in multiple sizes. I spent over an hour with a rep who was excellent. The dude knew all the information I was looking for: which soles last longer, which boots are more comfortable...etc. I tried on the Elk Ridge (in uninsulated and 400g), the Acadia (SO comfortable), the Sierra, the Grouse, and finally the Danner Light II. The Danner Light was the last pick on my list cause I was aiming for an 8” boot, but after trying it on it was sooo comfortable right out of the box and looked amazing.

I ended up going with the Danner Light II in cedar brown (USA made, recraftable sole, and waterproof) and grabbing a knitted beanie for $277 our the door. The boots which normally cost $380 cost me $247 plus a $20 cap. No tax cause it’s Oregon. The “defect” was a tiny dimple where the sole and boot meet. Barely visible. Amazing customer service and selection. The boots feel great today at work today, and I can only imagine how they’ll feel a month or two from now when they break in more. My coworkers have all been going nuts with compliments on them too. One of the salesmen told me that the Renton store near me just started selling factory seconds, but with the no tax I ended up saving money regardless of the gas money spent. Apologies if this is long winded, I’m typing this on my lunch break and it’s all stream of conscious. Time will tell how they hold up, but so far I give these boots and my experience with Danner has been a 10/10.
