Hi,
Most upvoted posts in /r/investing or /r/personalfinance suggest to invest steadily into index etf and not sell.
Looking at SPY chart on yahoo I see that if I have had invested 1$ in the first half of 2000 it would take me 13 years to start seeing profits. So following the reddit's advice I would be sitting in loss for 13 years feeling bad, but not selling. So this advice – to not time the market and not to sell – looks not so smart, isn't it? I believe I am missing something there so would be great to know what.
