Otherwise you'll be like me and have your bottom teeth shift back to normal.

Got braces in high school and religiously wore my retainers until the end of freshman year of college. Idk why I stopped...when I think about it all I can remember is putting my retainers in their case during finals week, and then basically never wearing them again. That was in Spring 2014. And it wasn't that at night I would deliberately and consciously not put them in...I like completely forgot to wear them. I forgot I had them. The whole entire concept of a retainer literally vanished from my mind for about 4 years. Cue moving out of dorm and to 4 different apartments over the course of 4 years and just losing them somewhere in a box each time. In addition to my horrible stress and depression where I'd literally sleep 14 hrs a day after class on and off for a couple years and had no set schedule of sleep to wear them.

So here I am now. Fortunately with a great job and no stress. Found my retainers woohoo...but...well, I have this nailbiting problem since the beginning of time that I've never cured so my bottom teeth have shifted back to what they were due to how I bite my nails. Fortunately my top teeth have minimally shifted and the top retainer fits snugly and after 2 nights my top arch is back to normal.

My bottom retainer is done for. Doesn't fit right. Hurts like a bitch thr next day. If I try to fit it over my teeth the right metal spacer sticks out. It doesn't work...and fitting a retainer in your mouth after 3 years can cause more damage than going out to an ortho to get braces a second time.

My insurance supposedly covers 50% of adult braces but I'll probably have to get both sets of teeth braced up even though my top arch is probably OK. And it's kinda embarrassing now as a 23 yo to walk around with braces unless I dish out like 5-7k for invisalign which my insurance probably only covers a tiny portion of. Dunno what I want to do. :(

My fault of course. But if you're a parent..remind your children. My parents paid for mine the first time w insurance and even if they'd help pay for it again which I do not want them to even if they offered...that's a lot of money I may be missing out on should I choose to actually fix my teeth.
