I thought I should share a few of my recent projects - this now sits pride of place next to my sofa, gathering dust underneath it - although it is on wheels, so I could clean the dust up...if I could be bothered.Finished article - see below for stepsI bought this oak block for around £30 about 7 years ago, it's been drying since then, it's probably still not dry, but it was dry enough for what I wanted. I used a router sled to flatten the top and bottom.​Flipped it over and routed out some holes for castors to fit​Once they were in it was time to start addressing the splits in the wood.​I've used steel staples I make myself using a bending rig to stop splitting in smaller pieces, so I super-sized them with 8mm solid bar. I made a jig to allow me to route a specific distance and drilled either end to allow the staple to be hammered in.​Here is it being hammered in.​And done.​A few more of these, some belt sanding and a couple of coats of hard wax oil and it's come up nicely.I believe I'm allowed a shameless self-promotion link so here it is: https://ift.tt/2O0TGVY via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2yTO7Dg
