I thought I should share a few of my recent projects - this now sits pride of place next to my sofa, gathering dust underneath it - although it is on wheels, so I could clean the dust up...if I could be bothered.Finished article - see below for stepsI bought this oak block for around £30 about 7 years ago, it's been drying since then, it's probably still not dry, but it was dry enough for what I wanted. I used a router sled to flatten the top and bottom.Flipped it over and routed out some holes for castors to fitOnce they were in it was time to start addressing the splits in the wood.I've used steel staples I make myself using a bending rig to stop splitting in smaller pieces, so I super-sized them with 8mm solid bar. I made a jig to allow me to route a specific distance and drilled either end to allow the staple to be hammered in.Here is it being hammered in.And done.A few more of these, some belt sanding and a couple of coats of hard wax oil and it's come up nicely.I believe I'm allowed a shameless self-promotion link so here it is: https://ift.tt/2O0TGVY via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2yTO7Dg
