At extremely short notice I had to move out of my last place and was offered a static caravan on a farm in exchange for me working with them.

I liked the idea (I'm a freelancer and work few hours and from home) and it has been going great to some extents but I have a few issues which I would like to find a solution to before going to them so I don't seem like I'm complaining

I have been living here for about a month now and most of the time I've been working several hours a day doing mostly manual labor. The last week and a half however the farmer has gone off to do contract work elsewhere and I've been given some jobs to do whilst he's away - his wife is 'in charge' but has extreme anger management issues so I tend not to be able to have a civil conversation. I've been doing the jobs in such a way that means I will finish them in the deadline but that I still have time to relax which she just sees as me slacking. She's twice come round and shouted at me for 'doing nothing but living rent free'.

I'm also concerned that I'm working far more than I'm getting in return. They've told me they can't afford to pay me, which I'm ok with because I'm getting my freelance income and just working for rent seems fair but I've got to find a way to make it fair.

I do really enjoy living here whilst the farmer is around but due to the lack of communication and his angry wife I'm not sure if I can stay - I would really like to find an amicable solution such that I can stay as being this busy and gaining this knowledge has done amazing things with my mental health.

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place but I'm just looking for advice, if anyone can suggest anything it would be very appreciated
