Hi all,

I was offered a job, the salary they stated was lower than what I currently make. (I make around 70-80k range, offer was about $2k lower then my current salary) I've not revealed my current salary at this point, however I had to provide a salary expectation when initially applying and my answer was 10k more than their offer is.

I asked if there was room to negotiate the salary etc as I feel I bring a lot value and all that, and I was told that I have a good background in one area but none in the other area of the job, so this was the best they could do as it's how things work there, unless I was able to provide them proof of my current salary then they could take another look. I've never disclosed to them what my current salary is.

I'm not sure if that is normal to ask? My ask was for 10k above my current salary so essential 10k more than their current offer. They don't know at this point their offer was slightly lower than my current salary. I also asked if they could send me the full details of the role through email so I could review everything else and was told the way they do things is verbally over the phone first, and then they'll get the paperwork together pending the results of a background check etc.

Guess I'm just looking for some input from people who are in the know! :)

Thanks!
