I'm not a DIYer by any stretch, and this sort of thing baffles me, but I need to replace the front door brass threshold and I'm not sure the best way to go about it.This is the current sill (about 8cm wide) and it appears to be missing a rubber insert along where the screws are. I've tried removing the screws but it is possibly stuck down with glue or silicone as I can't budge it - first problem. If I could identify the type of sill I might be able to find a new rubber insert but that is proving difficult (it's also potentially 15 years old). For instance, Stormguards list of rubber inserts doesn't really match the gap very well, as far as I can tell. The door also has a selection of brass attachments and the rubber strip underneath has broken off about two thirds along the door towards the hinges (I'm guessing the rubber strip on the door originally met with the rubber strip from the threshold.). I think the front part slides off to reveal screws but I've not yet managed to move that either - second problem. As far as I can tell, by squeezing a metal ruler in at the very end of the door, the gap between the bottom of the door and the wooden sill is about 2.5cm which seems quite big to me (the gap to the frame, when the door is locked is still about 7 - 8mm as well). The problems include getting the old brasses off and finding a suitable replacement that will fit... and fitting it. I think this might fit but I'm not sure if that's what I need or if there is a better option. This is what is hiding under the foot mat, just inside the door, which the brass threshold goes right up to.Any hints, tips, thoughts, prayers very welcome! e: I'm in the UK btw. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2PeJQo7
