Hey people!
First I should probably mention that I'm a man, I have small feet and I live in Europe.
I also travel around the world with just one tiny 35L backpack but I'm not a hippie, I like to go out to elegant restaurants, venues and art exhibits every now and then!
I've got most of my wardrobe sorted and I have clothing that can transform me from a beach side chiller into an elegant party goer for night time but one thing eludes me, the shoes.
You see I've tried many types of shoes and they all had a flaw. I started out with some handcrafted Chelsea boots which while really well made never really broke in (even after a year) and made my feet bleed, eventually I had no time to polish them either and my frequent hikes (not really hikes but more going off the beaten path) covered them in scuffs and battle scars.
I traded these for a pair of white sneakers which I had been told were the most durable sneakers you could buy (Stan Smith), this proved untrue, while very comfy and fine to wear to most places (white sneakers are really versatile if you wear a blazer with them people will just think you're hip and let you into the club even though they're sneakers) they'd let rain in and were very slippery on ice.
Next I tried a crowdfunded pair of shoes which were as comfy as sneakers and waterproof (Vessi) in grey those were suitable with a blazer and t-shirt so as to not look like a total bum when going out, however they were tough to put on and while the fabric part is still going strong the sole is now coming off...
Now I don't know what to try next. I know finding an all weather shoe is a hard ask, especially if one wants a BIFL, but I just want a shoe that looks good enough for the club or an art gallery, is resistant to water, and is extremely durable and comfortable. I don't care about keeping my feet warm, that's what socks are for.
Any ideas? A friend of mine said I should just find the toughest pair of nubuck chukkas I can find or something... Or maybe some sneakers with Gore Tex that don't look too technical or hiker-ish...
