We installed a new ceiling fan in our master bedroom this afternoon and afterwards the switch in our master bathroom no longer works. Before the swap we had a single switch in the bedroom that controlled the power to both the ceiling fan/light. There is also a double toggle switch in the bathroom that controls the bathroom lights and the overhead heater. If I recall correctly the wiring coming from the ceiling is a white and 2 black (one kind of grey). Our ceiling fan has a ground, blue, and black cables. The ground connected the the ceiling mount that came with the fan.During our first try, we connected the fan blue and black wires each to a separate black wire from the ceiling. When we tested, the ceiling fan lights worked using the switch, but the ceiling fan itself kept spinning, regardless of the wall switches toggle position. After that we connected both ceiling fans blue and black to a single one of the ceiling fans blacks and something didn't work (we can't recall what wasn't working exactly). So we connected the fan's blue and black to the other ceiling black. After that, the switch controlled power for both fans and lights. We put a wire nut on the other black one that was coming from the ceiling and finished putting the ceiling fan together. My issue is that now the switch in the master bathroom won't turn on anything. Is it possible that the single black wiring coming from the ceiling that we just put a wire nut on is now causing an open circuit and the bathroom switch is on that same circuit? Or is this just a crazy coincidence and I have some other issue. I plan on taking the ceiling fan down tomorrow to try and test, but wanted to ask see if my assumption about the open circuit sounds reasonable. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2OaKJtq
