Let me start off by saying I never was taught properly on how to handle money. I’ve always been with the mindstate of “it ain’t shit but money”. Now i have a high income and have no excuses to ever live paycheck to paycheck, but I’m steadily looking for excuses to cover up my bad habits on spending. So I’m turning to you guys for help. I make right at $1300 a week, less or more depending on if we get rained out or something similar so for this we’ll just average it to $1,000 a week . I work out of town 3 weeks then come I’m home for 1 week. So that puts me with the following week back at work not getting a paycheck other than my 6 hour drive time back to the hotel which is paid in double time cos it’s usually on a Sunday. Now I’m 24 and starting to realize the importance of financial security for the future. I learn better not by being told how but shown how. Can one of you redditors that’s pretty financially secured with a big savings account or someone very educated financially show me how you did it? How you would budget $1,000 a week on average to add a little to savings and have enough money to not have to worry about how I’m gonna pay a $50 phone bill when i shouldn’t have to. I’m a single dad at the moment to a 2 year old daughter. We lost her mom to suicide. So with me being gone 3 weeks at a time i moved back home with my parents, who care for her in my absence. Below is a list of my deductions (bills) i would need to account for each month. More than often i find myself buying clothes, jewelry, and did i mention I’m a firearm enthusiast (go figure) and overall shit i don’t need at that moment.
-$250 truck note -$60 phone bill -$400 daycare bill $300 misc
Literally that’s it. Other than vehicle maintenance that i do myself so it’s not enough to have to include other than the price of parts. The $300 is the estimated wants and needs of my daughter. So you can correct that it you want and give a better number. Thanks to anyone who replies.
I average $107,000 a year without a college degree and still live paycheck to paycheck due to irresponsibility and not enough knowledge to know where to even start. I have an IRA that i don’t touch and probably never will unless it’s a dire need.
