The breaking up of a large task into multiple pieces makes a task easier to take on. This advice is often given by psychiatrists to help their patients deal with tasks they find daunting. This "mental trick" carries over to other fascets of life, some not as helpful.

I was talking to a friend who makes about $15 an hour, he's a single father with two young kids. We were talking about phones and he tells me how he recently bought the $1000 iphone X. I jokingly gave him hell for spending so much money on a phone and he justified it by saying he only pays $40 a month for it. This is what made me decide to write this post.

$40 a month doesn't seem like much but $1000 is $1000 no matter how much you break it up. More and more companies are switching to payment plans because they realize the fact that people are more willing to spend money this way. Amazon just started doing this recently.

Don't fall into this trap. If it isn't a necessity and you can't buy it outright then you don't need it. Bottom line.
