Hello!
We are in need of replacing our bath towels - the 7+ yo IKEA towels we have now don't absorb any longer (despite not ever using fabric softener) and are to falling apart and no longer an even color. But we're not complaining after having them work so well for so long. :)
We're looking for a highly absorbent towel that will dry quickly. We're especially interested in considering something a little different: linen or perhaps bamboo, both of which I've also heard great things about. I'm also not throwing out the possibility of cotton again. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried any of these more unusual options and if they can share anything about them. I don't know if my spouse will love using a linen towel, since it will likely feel quite different than cotton. But if anyone has tried it, I'd LOVE to hear how it works. The proof is in how it actually dries a person, then how quickly it dries itself. :) I was considering microfiber but have moved away from that for several reasons. I tried one microfiber that felt like a fleece blanket and seen reviews for others that are similar and I don't love how they can get funky and put plastic intothe water supply that cannot be filtered out.
I'm specifically reaching out to this community because you understand wanting to "but it right, but it once" (or at least, buying less often) and supporting a more minimal lifestyle rather than wanting to simply "buy/try them all", etc. In fact, I saw one comment on a towel review recently that was proudly talking about how they thought this towel would last a whole year. Huh? I refuse to replace towels that often. I just want to get maybe 6 towels which is about all that we need. And, since we don't replace towels until they need it, we're looking to get the purchase towels we like first time. I don't want to be hating our towels for the next 5-7 years. LOL.
Thanks so much in advance!! I'm so looking forward to hearing your thoughts. :)
PS Here's a bit more specific info. For some cotton options , I'm intrigued with a few. There are the waffle weave, which is what I'm probably most interested in. Gilden Tree makes some, as does Onsen (though I'm not honestly thrilled about $50 for a towel) and K-25 (which appears to be a clone of Onsen that's not much cheaper). I'm also really intrigued by the Flatiron Waffle towel as it's 75% cotton/25% linen and should have more absorbancy, better drying, and some antibacterial properties while keeping the benefits of a waffle towel. Also, there are a few from IKEA. There's the new the dual sided terry/waffle that IKEA is now making, Salviken: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60349342/. Also Flodalen seems to be a high density weave (700g/m or 2.29oz/ft) but has a unique "wavy" structure which is supposed to make it dry faster (which is what I wondered before I read that in the description). https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10381315/. Lastly, the new Vikfjard is rather unique, as well with the contrasting border. Not as high density but that will mean it will dry fast, at least. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60405210/
(FWIW, this is what we've had for the last 7 years, though not in this color: Frajen: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30159183/)
PS If there's another subreddit you feel I would benefit from posting this, please let me know. I couldn't figure out which one might offer help on this. :)
