Minimum wage in Virginia is $7.25 an hour. Despite having 2 years of experience in food service, a bachelor’s degree (in an unrelated field), and a wide open availability, I make only $7.75 at Panera (I think because I look 16 despite being 23). I had just moved from another state and didn’t quite understand the scaling in wages, so I didn’t fight it. I’ve been there less than 6 months but feel that I am grossly underpaid. I always cover/pick up extra shifts when asked, my managers trust my opinions and rely on me, and I am great with customers. I’m asking for a raise tomorrow...but I have no idea what to ask for. I would really appreciate any feedback!
Edit: I am comfortable bringing up the conversation, I’d just like any tips on how much more to ask for.
