In January 2018, my dad took me off of his health insurance out of spite. I wasn't made aware of this until February or March when I went to the ER and it ended up costing me $4000 after they told me I was no longer covered.

I went to HR at my job, and they said that this doesn't count as a special event and I would have to wait until Open Enrollment in May. Come May, I was covered.

In July, I got a new job and was covered from my old job until the end of July. I signed up for health benefits through them, but it doesn't come into effect until my 90 days are up, which will be October 2018. I will have health insurance the rest of the year.

So my question is, will I be penalized come tax season for not having health insurance some of the year? And how much will it be for, if you know?
