My wife and I were on a Verizon beyond unlimited plan, so $80 per line plus tax and fees. I was really tired of spending approximately $168 on the cell phone bill. So we switched to google-fi, since the max out of pocket is about $60 per line, it will be less if you use less data.
After about a week, we gave up on Google-Fi due to reception issues with t-mobile and sprint in our area. Verizon actually gave us $150 per line to come back.
After looking at the line discount, once you hit 4 lines you reach the maximum discount.
- $40 gounlimited
- $50 beyondunlimited
- $60 aboveunlimited
The issue was we don't have children. After reading all the rules on the sharing of a plan it seems it also applies to friends, not just family. So I've "adopted" two of my friends to be on my plan, then I just automatically invoice them for their share of the bill via google pay each month. The process was pretty easy to transfer their numbers to our plan it was just a few steps online and a phone conversation with Verizon where the friend acknowledges the transfer of liability.
I'm sure this same idea can be used with other carriers to get a better discount too.
