I’m ripping up carpet in my living room because it’s disgusting. I’ve already done this in my bedroom no problems. The carpet and underlay is prob about 10-15 years old. The underlay is the kind of quilted rubberised stuff that is just laid on the floorboards - not glued. But in one area is looks a little like it’s melted to the joins in the floorboards a bit. See here: https://ift.tt/2D0OFN3 first I thought it was related to being in front of the heater (which used to be an open fireplace) but then I realised it’s not centred in front of the fireplace but off to one side a bit and there’s also a large what looks like water stain (?) around that area?I’ll be putting a rug down until it’s time to repolish so the look doesn’t matter so much now. But I’d like to know what might have caused this so I can avoid it in other rooms that still have carpet. Or if it’s something else that’s caused it that I might need to worry about?Further info: we are on a hill and this area is like at least four feet off the ground so it’s not flood water or anything like that! via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2NJjIRw
