So I'm starting to work on creating a Skull staff for Halloween, and I've got an idea for how I want it to look, but I've never really done much DIY, so I just wanted to run my ideas by this sub and see if anyone had any suggestions to improve or how to more easily do what I want to do.So right now, all I have is a 4' wooden dowel that I've inserted into a 1" x 2' PVC pipe. On top of that, I have a plastic skull I got from Wal-Mart with a hole drilled into it. I also drilled small holes in the eye sockets where I plan to insert some green LEDs. I made a notch at the top of the PVC so that the wires can be run through the PVC even after the PVC is attached to the top of the inside of the skull.I have some wood putty I was going to use to attach the dowel to the PVC to give it a wooden texture and some dark brown satin Rust-Oleum spray paint for painting the staff. For the circuit, I was going to use a 9V battery, a 220-ohm and 150-ohm resistor in series (didn't have any 330-ohm resistors lying around), the green LEDs, and a toggle or rocker switch. I was going to have a cut out in the PVC section of the staff where I can embed the rocker switch and run the wiring through the top of the PVC down to where the switch hole will be.Once I complete the wiring and seal the top of the staff, I'm going to decorate the base of the skull at the top of the staff with several mini-skulls. I want to achieve something looking like this.My questions are mostly this...What would be the best way to attach the mini-skulls to the PVC below the big skull? Would some sort of air-drying clay be best? I need them to stay put once they're in there.Since the LEDs will be battery operated, it might be a good idea to have a way to access the internals to replace the battery or replace faulty components. What would be the best way of securing the skull to the staff in a way that allows future access to the components? Where should I place the battery to allow for easy access to replace it? Will I have to do some complicated like drilling out an access hole/flap for the battery?Less important, but I need a discrete switch so it's not too prominent on the staff itself. Can anyone recommend a particular type of switch? I think a rocker switch would look nice, but if someone has a better idea or a specific switch they could link me to, that would be great.Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I want to make the staff as spooky as possible for my Necromancer costume. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2xBfQsu
