My disclosure is there is nothing to disclose I don’t own stock in any company I discuss. Putting out my thoughts based on current events. To me tech is so hard to value as most of the value these companies produce is intangible and based on the utility it brings us daily.

Facebook is down for the year with the largest single stock drop in history and the founders of both Instagram and WhatsApp left after disagreements with Zuckerberg. Generation Z, the younger generation after millennials, don’t even sign up for Facebook, rather having “rinsta” and “finsta“ Instagrams.

Amazon surpassed Tesla as the #1 most shorted stock. Both President Trump and Bernie Sanders are slamming Amazon, even though for much different reasons.

Apple is more reliable but ultimately its recent tech presentation was disappointing by all accounts. Overpriced phones with lackluster upgrades, no new iPads, no new MacBooks, and an overpriced watch that has some improvements, but research shows people would rather buy older versions for cheaper.

Netflix original content sucks they had to remove their rating system because of how bad everyone was reviewing it. I mean there is a clear difference in quality between HBO original programming and Netflix’s. Also Disney is about to open a competing service and not renewing contracts with Netflix, and Disney’s assets include Marvel Studios, Pixar, and others.

Google’s CEO is making unnecessary missteps with a censored search in China and his boss Larry Page is mostly checked out in his private Caribbean island. Also Google is setting itself up for long term failure by selling its own hardware but not having any flagship stores. I’m not buying Google Daydream until I can try it on and see how it fits on my face. Apple, Microsoft, and even Amazon all have their own brick and mortar stores where they control the experience. But not Google. I think Google is too disorganized and quite frankly, I think they give us too much value for free without monetizing more and this is impacting their bottom line. Companies like Amazon are leeching off Google’s work by implementing Android and Apple’s line of devices gets complete access to nearly all of Google’s incredibly valuable apps, especially Google Maps and Waze.

What grinds my gears the most is Microsoft is missing from this stupid FAANG acronym even though its stock is shooting through the roof on an impressive and consistent upwards trajectory year over year as cloud computing and its Surface lineup are posting strong results.

Anyway feel free to input in the comments. I don’t own any of these stocks, if that matters.
