Hi, crossposting from /r/cscareerquestions for potential other perspectives.

So early-mid way through my internship, I received a full time offer. The offer was really great - already ~40% higher than median entry level in my area, the company has solid benefits, and I really loved the culture/work/people.

At the time, it was so much higher than I was expecting that I was just kinda like "uhhh yeah that sounds good" and ended up signing the offer letter the next day. In retrospect, I regret not negotiating.

Since then, the stuff I've been working on has really grown and has resulted in savings of millions of dollars per year. I've been the primary dev working on this application and its algorithms/logic (usually will go to team lead/teammates about how to improve architecture/design) and created/discovered all of the techniques it's using myself.

I have a great relationship with my team lead's boss (director) who has been both a mentor and primary "client" of the application I'm working on. Got a glowing performance review from the director, saying I'm doing well in many things they look for in senior engineers. They were really receptive to an hourly rate increase request and I got a 20% bump a month or so ago.

So, I will also be staying on part time for almost a year before I start full time. I'm wondering if at some point, it would be a good idea to ask if I could get my starting salary raised whether it's in base pay or RSUs? Does me asking for that hourly rate bump already affect the chances of this making me look greedy? Or does this seem like a reasonable request, given the growth in responsibility, past performance (and future performance during part-time), and the extended period of time I'll be working for them before I actually start full-time?

TLDR

  • Received full time offer partway through internship, accepted it because it was nice

  • Since then, responsibilities have grown a lot, and have saved the company multimillions through techniques I discovered and implemented

  • Staying on part-time for almost a year before I start full-time.

  • Does it make sense to try asking for a salary increase (base or RSU idc) before I start full-time, given growth in responsibility, past successes, and the extended period of time I'm working for them before I actually start?
