Are there any tools or general guidelines that I can refer, to see how much I can afford for a car.
I want to know my budget before I start shortlisting cars.
Right now my shortlist is based on appearances and they are way too pricey...I probably could pay for it but I know that it will be a bad decision.
I think I can afford to pay 50K.
I earn 120k a year but take home pay is $ 4800 per month. Mortgage is $2200 a month Savings is $500K (joined with husband) spread over 3 banks/credit unions(CDs, saving) We are risk averse but have ESPP shares from that past 10 to 12 years and currently still purchasing Both husband and I have 401ks. Husband earns about 180k annually.
We have a huge goal on wanting to pay for our only daughter's college (100 k per year in 8 years...she is 10 now)
I currently drive a minivan that I bought in 2007. It has no issues.
I live in Midwest.
Monthly expenses: $1800 Dependents: One child (10)
