Short summary - I thought I was having a stroke last September and I was rushed to the ER where they did every test under the sun as well as a CT scan and CTA scan all within an hour of me arriving. It turns out it was a migraine that has symptoms that mimic a stroke. The entire claim was denied three times by BCBS by saying that the CT scan was not medically necessary, so I sent it out for third party review by the state and they are saying that BCBS should uphold the denial.
I have been back and forth between BCBS and the hospital with BCBS saying that, based on my summary of events, that this should be covered, but the hospital is saying everything is coded right in the claim.
What are my options now? I will be getting a bill soon for the $26,000, which the hospital said can reduce it based on annual income, but it's the principal of it - - I thought I was having a stroke, so I did what anyone should do - I went to an ER that's in my network and let the doctors do their thing while I was completely loopy and out of it.
Should I entertain getting an attorney involved?
