Hey guys,
I currently work for an investment firm and am gathering my 3 years of required experience before I sit for my CFP. I am currently sitting at about 9 months of experience total and that's if the board approves my work, which is debatable. My firm simply brokers Precious Metals and Crypto-Assets, we do not do Financial Planning or give Financial Advice (although I do have financial planning type discussions with prospective clients).
In the mean time, I decided I was going to get my Series 65. I have downloaded the official study guide and am doing self education, I expect I would sit for this test within the next 6 months. Is this a waste of time?
PROS: I genuinely do not know most of the information in the study guide, so I am gaining knowledge and this could be useful to have for the next 2-3 years while I gather my relevant experience and a starting client base. This is very cost efficient.
CONS: I can simply start the formal CFP education and then take the test, although I won't be able to use the designation for multiple years. This would cost me $7,000-$10,000 and I would prefer to keep that capital in investments as of now, given that I can't use the credentials for multiple years anyway.
Thanks!
