Not sure if this technically counts as r/frugal but I thought it might be worth sharing.

If you want some plants to spruce up your home/garden you don't need to buy them. Instead, you can ask a friend or a kind neighbor if you can take a cutting of one of their plants so that you can grow your own.

Not sure what a cutting is? It's basically just a small segment you take from a plant which you pop in some water for a few weeks. Once the roots grow you plant it in some soil and you have yourself a new plant. (Obviously, this varies with different plants, so Google to correct procedure for your species.)

Just today I visited a friends garden and asked to take a cutting of some of her plants. She was delighted to let me take some, as I clipped it to make the plant look more even. She even offered for me to take more clippings.

I know plants aren't 'essential' but they can really transform a place. Plus you can even take cuttings of more useful plants. A few cuttings of mint and you'll never have to buy anymore for the rest of your life. A cutting of a snake plant and the air in your room will be nice and clean.

And for all those in the Northern Hemisphere, now is the perfect time to get cutting. They thrive when the sun is out and the days are long.
