It started when I saw the movie "Into the wild". Since then, I learned that life doesn't have to strictly follow a single path, we must experience it to the fullest, follow our passions without having to fill our voids with material things.

There are kind of "demons" that prevent us from giving the maximum capacity we have. For 2 years I have been struggling with them, here are some actions that I have taken to simplify my life:

1) Throw my phone intentionally into the water. I tried all possible methods to leave my addiction to the smartphone. I tried to regulate its use, eliminate social networks, useless applications, turn to battery saving mode, grayscale mode, etc. However, I always returned. I had a severe problem of self-control and I realized that the seriousness of my addiction was expelling me for the real world.

My goal was to get away from that device, so I decided to damage it by purposely submerging it in water. When I did that, I felt as a murderer, as if I were the protagonist of a crime scene. The first weeks were the hardest, but at the same time the most revealing. Only 2 friends tried to contact me.

It's amazing how technology creates the illusion of connectivity. I have already spent about 5 months without a smartphone and I feel like everything becomes easier and in order. I have returned to the email and I completely deleted all social networks (except reddit), because I do not find them useful (There are already enough posts about this topic so I do not want to expand).

2) Go to the library. Nowadays, finding a place where we are not encouraged to buy something is really difficult, the libraries are that exception. It's not only because of its vast collections of books, movies, audiobooks, ebooks and even videogames, but because it's a place where you find calm and community. You can also develop a self-taught habit to learn new skills and improve in the personal or professional field. And the best of all, it's free and open to anyone.

3) Use public transport or bicycle. This varies according to the place where each one lives. In my case I live in a city with one of the worst traffic in the world (Bogotá) so the use of public transport makes my life easier and gives me time to listen to an audiobook or a podcast in an mp3 or just for the fact of not thinking about the costs of having a car.

4) No Tv. There is not much to say.

5) Gym at home. I hate the "fitness" world. While there are some machines that would be useful in the gym, I prefer to build a gym at home, do cardio outside and not in a machine that requires money.

Well, it's my opinion, although much is related to living a frugal and minimalist lifestyle, the actions that I have commented have helped me to change my mind and focus on more important things. I hope you find them useful.

What actions have you taken to have a simple life?

*Sorry for my English (is not my native language).
