Hi. So I’m about to graduate in university, my major is Statistics and my GPA is around B-B+ overall.
From the beginning of uni, I decided to become a high school teacher (parents knew about this) and I’ve proceeded this plan until now.
However, my parents are not actually rich enough to send me abroad in university and as far as I know, they are already borrowed lots of money from bank and through government system. (Every year, internationals pay roughly $35000 in NZ dollar. And I studied here for four years)
So If I continue my education degree next year, it costs roughly $25000 and $16000 for my living expense. And I can imagine they will borrow money again from somewhere.
What I am afraid now is that my parents borrow money from someone like a private loan and at worse, I need to pay those in the future without recognising that situation. I want to pay these debt with parents as soon as possible.
So I told them my plan that I want to get a job this year but the thing is my parents are worrying that I will not be able to find a job, especially when I’m an internationals who speaks English as a second language. And they got mad at me, saying it is better you get the stable job now and pay those debts with your stable income. I asked them how are they going to borrow those, and they never replied.
But I think they are wrong. Plus, I want to stay here for long time and my visa will be supported by my partner. So I believe if I can support any skills to get a job, I will be able to survive here without pressuring them.
Would it be a worth if I invest my money on diploma education if I can get a money? Or should I take a risk even if I am not sure if I can get a job? I will work really hard, if I can.
I really need an advice. Thank you for your help.
