I'm very sure that my mom has been at least through the initiation phases of a MLM focused on "health and wealth" life-coaching in which to participate in the "company" she had to complete a $5000 "certificate course". I've been getting a lot of red flags since early summer, from her refusing to talk about her "business" which is unusual as she is often very open with me, the fact that the 1st certificate course if $5000, that it's by commission through directly recruiting people, the way people recruited are trained to "understand" that there are certain fine lines legally with what this coaching can and cannot do for them, and the signs that my mom's in financial stress nearly daily now. I do feel a bit disappointed in my mom- she's the one who made me financially savvy with budgeting- but I do feel like they really preyed on her loneliness and personal beliefs. Part of the "life-coaching certificate program" had the participants get really deeply personal about their own insecurities and failures, my mom cried in front of a bunch of supportive strangers, which makes me feel is very unprofessional of any program to ask participants to be that emotionally open and target people who are that vulnerable to get early emotional investment.

What I'm ultimately trying to ask is does this sound like a multilevel marketing scheme via "life-coaching", what can I do and how could this potentially affect me? I know ultimately it is her personal choice and that I'll have to ride it out while being as supportive as I can (while cursing this so-called company under my breath)- but any advice about how to discuss this issue with my mom and fore-knowledge of how this could affect me would greatly be appreciated.
