Hi /r/DIY,I have treated my butcher block desk with Howard's Mineral Oil and Howard's Butcher Block Conditioner and the desk is still oily to the touch. Here's a picture after the treatments.I applied a coat of the Oil every day for one week, then once a week for a few more weeks, then about a month passed of leaving it alone. Then, I applied 2/3 of the conditioner bottle for treatment. All this while, these treatments have really brought out a beautiful color in the wood and the conditioner has made the desk smoother, but the desk is still oily to the touch. My hand comes away from the desk with a light coat of oil. What should I do to alleviate this? Is there a way to dry the butcher block? Do I now need to apply some kind of pure wax product or sealant? I've looked online as best I can (I didn't know what search terms to use to describe this problem, hence why I'm here) but I've found nothing that solves my problem.edit: some words for clarificationedit 2: Some further research has pointed me in the direction of "drying oils" that polymerize or "Waterlox" treatment. Not sure if either of these solve my issue. Thoughts?EDIT 3: Thanks for the responses folks. Lesson learned here: NON-DRYING OILS ARE NOT FOR FURNITURE! Wish this idea came up in my searches before I did all this work lol. I hope this post comes up in searches for folks in the future so they can avoid the same mistake I made. Looks like moving forward I'll have to remove the finish somehow and then apply an appropriate treatment with some kind of polymerizing oil treatment or something comparable. Thanks again, friends. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2M3Qkp6
