I'm working on FIRE and have been auditing my expenses looking for places to trim fat. I just started going through my food budget (which is bloated AF), and scored an immediate big win.
i eat a ton of yogurt but have developed a taste for Siggi's, which is unfortunately quite expensive. i've been buying the single-serve cups and eating them as snacks during the workday.
Siggi's is $.30/oz in single serve cups, and drops to $.23/oz if you buy the 24 oz container. 32 oz of 365 store brand vanilla yogurt at whole foods is $.11/oz.
I eat at least 36oz of yogurt a week. Crunching the numbers in this scenario, I save almost $360 per year by choosing store brand yogurt.
The drawback to larger containers is you only get two choices: plain or vanilla. I can spruce it up with coconut shavings, mixed nuts, and other fruit occasionally. Even if I add in 1/2 banana to each serving, it will still be cheaper than 24 oz Siggi's on its own.
My first mistake was buying single-serve cups. My second mistake was not buying the store brand. Lesson learned!
