So I bought a working Dell Latitude E6440 at a great deal ($89) and it's been a great laptop. However I noticed that the laptop hinge cover is bent at the HDMI and power port, so I decided to try to remove the hinge cover and bend it back to shape. But upon removing the screws (https://ift.tt/2vLpecj), three out of the four screws were so tight that I ended up stripping them (https://ift.tt/2KWgwwk) and mangling up my screwdriver (https://ift.tt/2vNnDTg) (it was a cheap one I got a few years back, they held up surprisingly well over the years at least). Funnily enough, the only screw that came out easily was the one at the bent area (https://ift.tt/2KZR5dk). As you can see in the photos, I tried multiple ways to get at least one of them out. First I tried using rubber band to get it out, no luck. Then I tried using a knife to try and make a cut in the screw head, but that just ruined the hinge cover surface and didn't make a dent in the screw head (I don't have a dremel on hand to make the cut unfortunately). I then tried drilling, but I guess the drill bit I have is too dull or something to be effective, and I can't find other drill bits that are small enough for the screw. I do have superglue on hand, so I could try that, but then worst case scenario I got a screwdriver stuck to my laptop and no acetone (nail polish remover) to remove it.At this point I just want to get these screws out and remove the hinge cover. I'll probably order a new set of screws and a new hinge cover. Any ideas to gets these screws out are greatly appreciated. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2nF2m9F
