Hi all. I'm renting a house that has a washer and dryer in the basement, and I'm trying to fix the washer in exchange for a little off next month's rent.I went to put a load of laundry in the other day, and when I came down to move it to the dryer, the cycle had stopped and the washer was full of water. I couldn't get it to drain or start at any point in the wash cycle. I was thinking this was just an issue with a clog somewhere in the drain or the water pump, so I disconnected the drain hose from the pump to let the water in the machine drain into the floor drain. I removed the pump to check for any objects stuck inside, thinking that is a common issue. There didn't seem to be anything wrong with the pump or any of the drain hoses. I tested the capacitor and it was reading fine. I removed the motor to check the motor coupling and that was fine as well. After doing some more research, I'm thinking it's a problem with the transmission. When I tried to turn the washer on and get it to drain before pulling it apart, it made a slight humming noise, like the motor was trying to run, but wasn't able to do anything. Could it be that the water pump looks fine but actually needs to be replaced, or is it probably the transmission? I could replace the transmission myself, but am wondering if at this point it's better to just get a new machine. If it helps the washer is an Estate ETW4300SQ0, and I'm not sure how old it is, as it was here when I moved in the summer of 2016. Thanks in advance for any insight you all might have. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2vajNmT
