Ok so I've been a grumpy miserable wreck on here lately (I'm sorry guys), and I think it's because... well I've given up my hobbies for the sake of frugality (and paying off loans), and instead of replacing them with other hobbies, I've replaced them with chores (things that are frugal and good for you, but aren't actually fun. Like meal prep, budget tracking, exercise, thrift flipping etc)

What are some fun hobbies that a: are cheap, and b: don't require being out in the woods. I absolutely love being out in the woods hiking, rock climbing, camping etc but my on-call schedule means I rarely do those things, so it has to be cheap and just as importantly not contingent on getting lost in the woods.

Things I like:

  • Making/tinkering things: I've done woodwork, metalwork, leatherwork, electronics and jewelry making. Most of these require tools and or a garage, and most importantly money for materials. As for programming... that's something I should do but don't enjoy doing. Pls don't suggest knitting/crochet/etc. my SO does those. I've tried them. They are far too mindless for me (I want to keep my brain busy too, not just my hands)

  • Adrenaline things: I like rock climbing. I also love cars: If I was "allowed" I'd be dumping money into a project car. But enjoying cars requires either enough money for a reliable but fun daily driver ($$$), or a house/garage/parking to own more than one car. I got neither, so cars are out. Track time is expensive anyway. biking is also out because being in the woods again is a NoNo. Road biking in NOVA is suicide. If I wanted to kill myself I can think of 10 better ways to do it than that. My life is fucking boring. Most of the time I feel dead inside. I want to feel alive (without dying or getting arrested preferably)

What do you all get up to in your free time? Or is it really all just budgeting, making food, hunting deals, and convincing yourself that that's fun?
