So, a bit of background. I got this free circular wooden table a couple of years back from my mechanic. I decided to keep it in the garden so I sprayed it with polyurethane which definitely didn't work well under the intense sunshine in my zone 9b area. Eventually the stuff came off and the wood itself- which is years old started cracking in places and I knew it didn't have much time left so I thought I would try to make the current table as a framework for a new concrete table, retaining the same shape. As you can see, it didn't exactly work. First of all no matter how I smoothed the concrete on top before drying it still appears bumpy and uneven. Then there's the cracks, which are forming (I think) because of the weight of the concrete warping the wood under it, which is basically splitting apart now. I also could not, for the life of me, get the cement to stick well to the round edges of the table.Could you recommend another way to keep the table preserved before it falls apart? Should I knock all the concrete off it and try another method? or keep at it with the cementing and just to refine my technique somehow?Or just totally abandon ship on the whole thing, smash it up and use it for parts? Thanks for your help in advice, I've been scratching my head all to no avail over this.https://ift.tt/2OFA0HY via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2BqXE9B
