As the title states, I cancelled my credit monitoring service with Experian at the beginning of this week. However, my service isn't set to expire until the 15th of next month. Yesterday and today, I got two email alerts notifying me that my identity was used to apply for credit cards issued by Alliance Data.
The alert states that the application won't reflect on my credit, but regardless, someone has my information.
I'm seriously concerned about my identity being stolen, as I'm not in a good financial situation at the moment, but I'm wondering if this has something to do with the Experian cancellation.
I'd like to think that a company wouldn't be that malicious, but with how things have been going in the world of credit lately, I wouldn't put it past them.
Conveniently, Experian's service to dispute these applications and start an investigation is currently down, so I have no known way to get this issue looked into.
Edit: I don't want to accuse a company of wrongdoing without any proof, but I think it's mildly suspicious that I had almost no activity involving my credit/identity until I stopped paying for monitoring services...
