Built myself a desk so that I could stop doing school work at the kitchen table.Finished Desk first! It's a Zebra and Wenge Wood top with a metal frame. The Orinal Design was going to be Zebrawood Diamonds with the Wenge wood running parallel.I Took some Plywood and started playing with other designs and liked how this looked. The first half cut and laid out.The full table desktop laid out.I don't have a buscuit joiner so I opted to glue all the pieces to a 1/8th inch piece of plywood which I then squared off with the table saw after it dried. This was the most tedious part! The wenge and Zebra wood were different thickness so I built a router sled and planed it down as evenly as possible. After sanding there were larger gaps than I wanted so I got some epox and filled them in. I was really nervous about doing this.It turned out better than I expected!!Here's one of the bigger gaps filled with the epoxy.I spent a long time trying to figure out how to finish the top. I wanted a hard finish because I would be writing on it, but I didn't want to change the color of the wood too much. I failed with the second part :( It still looks nice, but I would have liked to have kept more of the original look. Any suggestins for next time would be greatly appreciated.Fully coated.I decided to build the base out of 1 inch square tubing and have the top sit in an angle iron frame. I like the way it looks.Getting work don on the framing. The plan is to have the printer on the left side, with two shelves on the right, So here I am trying to figure out spacing. Here's with most of the base done.Base is complete and just needs painted!!Desk Finished and I'm really happy with the end Product. From the suggestion of a friend, I'm going to add a box to the lower right shelf to make it more drawer like.Finished top in the sun looks really good. I also added a small piece of channel on the upper right shelf to hold pens and what not, I plan on making a desk organzier so I don't know how much use that will get. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2BJDlnN
