I've never had a cat growing up, and have decided to adopt one. I've been reading up, and I feel I am ready to take on the responsibility. Don't worry, I do not plan on being a frugal jerk to kitty. I want to give the cat a happy, healthy life. I do have the budget to afford a cat, the common quote I see around is to plan for 1200/year. I can do that. And I know there will be unexpected expenses especially when it comes to vet bills later in life. I am prepared. That being said, I'm sure there's some wisdom to be passed down from veteran frugal cat parents.
