Some history, I'm 27, live in the US, and I've been fully employeed with the same employer for 5 years since graduating from college. I went from making 47k with 2k in potential bonuses to 92k with 13k in potential bonuses over the 5 years. I haven't really increased my lifestyle, so I've gone from the 8% 401k contribution (to get the full employer match) to 15% on my 401k, and maxing my vanguard IRA as well as HSA and investing what I can there, while paying for any medical expenses out of pocket to let that money grow tax free.
My employer offers a 401k through Fidelity, and I have fewer options through this than I would like, and I had always just allocated everything to the Fidelity 2055 K fund to "set and forget" it. I only recently realized how relatively high the fees would end up being if I left my money in this instead of going the index fund route. Luckily with Vanguard and my HSA, I have great options for investing in low fee index funds and have set that up. My 401k however doesn't have a ton of options, and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to allocate percentages for a 27 year old planning to retire at 65.
