My family has undergone financial challenges the past couple of years and as a result, my SO has really taken to being frugal. I would like to make more romantic gestures- I do already do nice things like compliment her, give her backrubs, make her tea without her asking, make time to hang out- but I want to make some more definite gestures.

I sometimes want to surprise her with flowers or chocolate (I know that is cliche, but she loves both), but any expense she sees as frivolous is scrutinized. I'm not saying that is bad- I am frugal myself- but that does mean I need to think more outside of the box.

So I'm asking you, romantic people of /r/frugal- what's a free gesture you'd consider romantic?
