Not going great so far. DSS referred me to housing authority. Housing authority (screw it, this is Durham county, NC) says the waiting list for their few senior facilities is 1-2 years. I point blank asked "it sounds like there is basically no safety net for potentially homeless seniors", the (nice) guy said he was sorry to say but that was true. I asked if he knew any other agencies I could call. He did not.

Area Agencies on Aging for this county has a voicemail that says you can leave voicemail for more info (which I did), but their voicemail message also encourages you to call DSS (which, as I mentioned, referred me to the housing authority, which has 1-2 year waits). If anyone calls me back, I'll update.

"Adult Protective Services" for this county looks like this:

There isn't specifically abuse happening here.

Feeling pretty hopeless at the moment, I suppose just leaving this here as a cautionary tale. Maybe other parts of the country have better resources. I'll keep trying to find phone numbers.
