Hi all,Did as much research as I can and hit a dead end, hope you all can help.I'm replacing a basement toilet and the flange is a bit strange - there is a large gap between flange and drain pipe, as big as an entire wax ring (extra thick):https://ift.tt/2m0oBWQ causes the lip, and if I out a wax ring on top it won't get squished down enough to seal - I tried an extra thick one from HD with a flange, and it wasn't even close - the total gap from that bottom lip to the underside of the toilet is ~3".When I replaced it, it had a very thick wax layer on top, which easily scraped off what I (thought) was some sort of gasket:https://ift.tt/2udDqcu, after messing around with this old gasket (not reusable) it appears it might be a flange from a wax ring where they cut off the inner part of the flange that hangs down into the drain pipe (if the wax is removed you can see the shape) and perhaps they just scraped all the wax off the top and set a second wax ring above it?I tried just getting an extra thick wax ring from HD with the inner flange and sliding it in and there isn't nearly enough wax, and the flange isn't nearly as thick on the top nor as flat as the one it's replacing.Am I missing something obvious, like a gasket/part? Should I just stack two wax rings (I hear this is poor practice, but I'm starting to think that's what was originally done)? Do I need to do some sort of conversion on the flange/drain pipe? Everything online shows the flange only wide enough for the wax ring to set on top, but mine is big enough for it to sit inside. Thanks for any help you can provide.EDIT: I ended up stacking 2 wax rings, one normal and one extra thick with flange. I took the normal one and moulded it to the interior of my flange (on top of the drain lip) then used the extra thick one on top, so the flange would hold the wax on the normal when it tightened down.So far, a few practice flushes and no leaks now. Should be good, hopefully.I was hesitant to do this as any prior diagrams I'd seen showed the double stack used for a deep flange - in this case, my flange was pretty much at tile level, but was a wider setup than I've seen elsewhere and thus needed to fill the gap between the drain lip and top of flange. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2NzOf1k
