I do this a few times a year just to check, and I always find at least one listing for me or a close family member. If you're thinking, "Who loses money? Who has bank accounts they don't know about?", it can be from lots of things. In my case, I've seen: * Final small paycheck from an old job that was never picked up * Rebate check that was sent to the wrong spelling of street address * Insurance check that never came in the mail * Stock that a grandparent had purchased for someone that they had cashed out, without realizing a small balance remained and was reinvested
Even if you've checked before, check again. New listings show up all the time. Don't forget to check states where you've lived in the past.
I really encourage you to check your state's website. Usually the search is easy and the claim is easy to file. Enjoy!
