I have two columns in my dining room that I would like to remove. I'm pretty confident they are not load bearing but the manner in which they are attached to the floor prevents me from being 100% sure. There are no support posts in the basement below either column. They run in between/parallel to the floor joists. There is open space on the floor above the columns. I cut a hole in the drywall and there appears to be two 2x4s sandwiched together. With one of the 2x4s going through the sub floor and nailed to a block between two floor joists.
