My mom and I are both trying to lose some weight. We were joking around today and I was like 'let's just start doing blow and we will be ready for Studio 54 in no time!' and she was like 'or we could just eat like it's the 70s'.

We started talking seriously about what we ate in the 70s (She is a babyboomer and I am in my 40s). And it was totally different!! We ate sooo much less. It was like, breakfast was one soft boiled egg with a piece of toast and a small oj. thats it! Now it is a three egg omelette with 2 pieces of toast and a large juice. We didn't have mugs, we had coffee cups and tea cups. Our glasses were half the size of most kitchen glasses now. Lunch was a hotdog and a small glass of milk. On Saturday night she made us popcorn and we had a once weekly coke (and watched love boat and fantasy island). But most nights we didn't have snacks after dinner. now it just seems like it is a free for all, all the time. And people, WE WERE THIN!

I feel like I always have to have multi-options for my family now and I end up throwing alot of food away. I do a kick-ass job of keeping food costs down but I could save soooo much money if food culture was more like it was when I was growing up. It was much more structured and we ate much smaller portions. I am going to trade out our modern dishes and glasses for 70s sized ones. I think I'll go to goodwill and actually find some authentic era stuff.

Anyone else feel this way?
