I know they're one of the most-talked-about brands on this sub, but just in case anybody was wondering how it works...
I bought 4 pairs of everyday light cushion tab no-show socks in 2013, and another 3 pairs in 2014 and they've been the only socks I wear since. The heel of the 4 original pairs had separated at the wide serger stitch. I'm not entirely sure why, as my heels are very smooth (no callouses or dry skin). I stuck them in an envelope, paid for shipping, and a few days later I had a warranty code in my email equal to the current new price of 4 of the same pairs on their website.
I did not have to buy the same thing; I could buy anything that I wanted. Of course I did buy the same thing.
I also sent an email to support indicating my concern that all of my socks are failing in the exact same manner, despite washing inside out as recommended.
But let's do the math...
I do my laundry every other week, and wear socks for 2 days (wool socks only). So that's one day per week per pair of socks, or 52 wears per year, 208 wears in 4 years.
At MSRP of $16, that's $0.0769/wear if I threw them out after 4 years.
With the cost of shipping back under warranty ($2/pair), if they don't majorly alter their design to fix this flaw, then I'm looking at an additional $0.0096/wear.
My previous sock of choice was Puma athletic at approximately $3/pair, which would last for 1 year. That's a cost of $0.0577/wear.
So for me and my laundry schedule, Darn Tough breaks even at about year 6 compared to an average cotton athletic sock, including potential warranty replacement. Also they're far more comfortable :)
